TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY::: Google Gives The Ultimate Holiday Gift: Free WiFi On Virgin America Flights

Google is going to make a lot of frequent flyers, and Virgin America, happy this holiday season. As a gift to people who fly on Virgin America’s WiFi-equipped planes, Google will be footing the bill for everybody on board between November 10, 2009, and January 15, 2010.

For Google, this is a smart marketing move because it generates tons of good will among everyone who flies Virgin America. But Google is really giving a gift to Virgin America in the form of yet one more incentive to fly its planes over competitors’. Will American Airlines and others with WiFi on board have to respond with their own freebie giveaways? I hope so.

Not that I mind paying the $13 per flight to use WiFi on Virgin America flights. In fact, I go out of my way to try to fly on Virgin America, just so that I don’t waste 6 hours going from coast to coast. But giving it away free makes it even more appealing. In fact, as I’ve suggested in the past, I wonder if Virgin America would be better off giving the WiFi away for “free” to everyone on board regularly, but charging more per flight. I’d certainly be willing to pay $25 to $50 more per flight if I knew there was WiFi. But that’s just me.

The only thing that worries me is whether the in-flight WiFi system can handle everyone on board surfing the Web at the same time. At least with the $13 fee, there is a natural cap to how many people use it at once.

TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY::: T-Mobile Sidekick Disaster

Wow. T-Mobile and Danger, the Microsoft-owned subsidiary that makes the Sidekick, has just announced that they’ve likely lost all user data that was being stored on Microsoft’s servers due to a server failure. That means that any contacts, photos, calendars, or to-do lists that haven’t been locally backed up are gone. Apparently if you don’t turn off your Sidekick and make sure its battery doesn’t run out you can salvage what’s currently stored on the device, otherwise you’re out of luck: Microsoft/Danger is describing the likelihood of recovering the data from their servers as “extremely low”.

T-Mobile Sidekick users have been suffering from a major outage all week, and that issue apparently hasn’t been resolved either.

This goes beyond FAIL, face-palm, or any of the other internet memes we’ve come to associate with incompetence. The fact that T-Mobile and/or Microsoft Danger don’t have a redundant backup is simply inexcusable, especially given the fact that the Sidekick is totally reliant on the cloud because it doesn’t store its data locally. Microsoft acquired Danger for $500 million in February 2008.

Update:: There is some speculation that this was not actually caused by a server meltdown, but by Danger’s failure to make a backup before a Storage Area Network upgrade that was botched.

Yesterday some GREAT or slighly great news was announce yesterday

"Anyone who lost data during the recent Microsoft/T-Mobile Sidekick outage. While it initially appeared that user data may have been lost forever, T-Mobile issued a statement late yesterday saying, “Recent efforts indicate the prospects of recovering some lost content may now be possible.”

It goes on to say, “In the event certain customers have experienced a significant and permanent loss of personal content, T-Mobile will be sending these customers a $100 customer appreciation card. This will be in addition to the free month of data service that already went to Sidekick data customers.”

The card can be used for T-Mobile products and services. The company has temporarily stopped selling Sidekick devices and has advised current owners to not allow their Sidekicks to reset or lose power."

MUSIC MONDAYS: FEATURED DJ OF THE WEEK "TIESTO"

TEXTTOPARTY FEATURED DJ: TIESTO

If it's Wednesday it must be Latvia. Tonight Tiësto plays to 15,000 dance enthusiasts and music fans in the Baltic State. Already this week the legendary Dutch DJ has wowed the Balearic masses at his summer-long Monday residency at Privilege. Tomorrow he's off to Italy. The day after, Greece.

This is very much business as usual for Tiësto, the ultra-busy DJ who turned the playing of trance music into an artform and whose achievements are unsurpassed.

Tiesto was inspired by the likes of U2, he invested heavily in the live aspect of his sets, employing his own sound, light and visual crews, creating arena-friendly dance music spectaculars. In 1997 he formed his own label, Black Hole Recordings, to release both the records he made himself and ones made by like minded electronica visionaries. He has been nominated for a Grammy, had worldwide hit singles (his remix of Delerium's Silence featuring Sarah McLachlan; Dance4Life featuring Faithless's Maxi Jazz), performed at the opening ceremony of the Athens Olympics with music he composed especially for the occasion, wowed the rock festival crowds at Coachella, and remixed the likes of The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Bloc Party. He is, in short, the biggest DJ in the world.

'Because people care,' is Tiësto's response when asked to account for his huge success, 'and they see that I care. I'm very honest in what I do. It's not an act or a gimmick. It's pure, it's emotion.'

When you see me DJ you know I feel it and I love what I do. The real thing. When you see me play you know you are seeing someone who plays not because he has to but because he loves it. For this champion of the people, it's not just about his undeniable ability to create a party in any venue, large or small, in any place in the world, but also about how the music moves people. Makes them feel something. People write letters saying, 'I was going through a bad period but your music and your show made me feel good.'

But 2009 is also very much about business as usual for Tiësto. After a run of four top-selling electronic artist albums, the electronic pioneer has made Kaleidoscope, an artist album in the truest sense: a stunning collection of songs written and recorded in collaboration with a variety of music talents from the worlds of dance, pop and rock: Jónsi Birgisson from Sigur Rós, Kele Okereke from Bloc Party, Nelly Furtado, Calvin Harris, Emily Haines from Metric, to name a few. Having made the DJ performance an artform, Tiësto has now made the dance album an artform.

'The starting point was to work with different artists that I liked,' Tiësto explains, 'it was as simple as that. 'Sigur Rós make beautiful music. Bloc Party are fantastic and exciting and innovative. But the hardest thing initially was to get those kind of people to collaborate. They don't work with dance artists as a rule, and especially not a dance DJ, but when we started producing these tracks, I was surprised at how well the styles work together.'

Once the artists had seen YouTube clips of Tiësto's crowd-wowing performances, like the one of him playing in front of 250.000 people on the beach in Brazil, and once they'd heard the tracks he'd been writing, they all jumped at the chance.

First on board were Tegan and Sara, the Canadian indie duo and twin sisters. Tiësto had remixed their single 'Back In Your Head', and in June 2008 they met in Vancouver. 'I realised what great songwriters they are – I gave them a track to write on and they did an amazing job.' In his home studio in his hometown of Breda in Holland, Tiësto set to work finessing the collaboration. 'Feel It In My Bones' is the result, an epic, shimmering floorfiller.

Soon the songs were pouring in. Nelly Furtado and Tiësto started off as mutual admirers, but after making her way to Tiësto's performance at the 2008 Miami Winter Music Conference (she'd come along with her producer Timbaland) Furtado instantly agreed to be involved, and a few weeks later she gave Tiësto an idea for a song that would become, 'Who Wants To Be Alone'. Next to sign up was Emily Haines of Metric. She caught the thrilling Tiësto DJ Experience in Ibiza last summer and again, didn't hesitate – 'Knock You Out' is a euphoric tune that will cause floorquakes in the ..... READ MORE

TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY::: THE SIMPSONS + SOCIAL MEDIA = FUNNY

In Sunday night’s episode of The Simpsons, digital technologies, gadgets, and social media played a starring role.

The show opens with Edna Krabappel’s 4th grade class using their iPhones and texting incessantly. When she confiscates their beloved devices, the children, led by Bart, plot to spike her coffee in an attempt to get them back.

Their scheming ways go a little too far and Ms. Krabappel ends up getting fired and replaced with a young, studly, and digitally savvy teacher — Zachery Vaughn — who promptly returns their devices and assigns 20 minutes of Twittering for homework.

Everything from Skype to Facebook and blogging get a social media mention in the episode courtesy of the fresh new teacher’s digital mentality. There may have even been a Foursquare mention at the 8:48 minute mark.

The Simpsons is always on the cutting edge of integrating social memes into their episodic content, but given the popularity of Twitter and Facebook we can expect even more social media mentions to pop up in popular primetime television shows.

Check out the episode embedded below for yourself and let us know what you think.

MUSIC MONDAYS: FEATURED DJ OF THE WEEK "CLINTON SPARKS"

Globally renowned DJ, Producer, Innovator, Hustler, Entrepreneur, Frontrunner. GET FAMILIAR!!!

Boston’s own Clinton Sparks has always set himself apart from the rest of the field of DJ’s & producers. His drive to succeed, coupled with his creative marketing & sales ideas, have helped him emerge from a cluttered field of DJs as one of the most exciting figures in the music game. These days DJs are a dime a dozen. To stand out regionally is a task in itself. Clinton has blown past the goal of being a regional figure and has positioned himself as a pre-eminent DJ known throughout the world, through his radio presence, mix-tapes & in the club.

Starting in 1998 with an unbranded 10-city nationally syndicated mixshow through Super Radio, Clinton has taken that notoriety & ballooned it into his own personality branded #1 rated syndicated mix show called "SmashTime Radio" in several top US markets & worldwide in Canada, Europe and Australia. Most recently Eminem asked Clinton to be apart of his totally uncensored hip-hop channel Shade 45 on Sirius Satellite Radio. Broadcasting live every week from NYC, Clinton hits the national airwaves "shock-jock" style with the newest exclusives, custom remixes and special guests celebrities.

Clinton Sparks has traveled the world playing in countries such as Australia, Hong Kong, England, Ireland, Scotland, Mexico, Canada, etc. There are few DJ's that can produce the excitement that Clinton Sparks does in the club, which is what makes him such a hot commodity for promoters who will fly him half way around the world for him to perform. When he is at work you can feel the energy and passion he has for the music. As he aggressively switches from record to record the crowd feeds off his intensity. Clinton’s record selection, energy and attitude truly define him as an artist. Hearing and watching him play is a performance in itself!

His shrill catchphrase “Get Familiar” garners instant reaction when it rings over the airwaves during his top-rated broadcasts, in the clubs and on his mixtapes. Artists from Kanye West, 50 Cent, Eminem to Pharrell of the Neptunes & beyond have all proceeded to “Get Familiar” with ....... CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY::: HulloMail Launches Visual Voicemail

Voicemail. You hate it. We hate it. Damn near everyone hates it – at least, we all hate it in its current form. It’s an antiquated system desperately hobbling on its last leg in an industry where technology moves forward at a nearly absurd rate. While our phones get bigger and better each and every month, our voicemail system has, for the most part, remained the same for over a decade.

That’s not to say there hasn’t been progress. There certainly has – but it’s isolated. A handful of smartphones (the iPhone, the Samsung Instinct, and a couple of BlackBerry handsets) have embraced visual voicemail, which does away with the archaic process of dialing in for your messages by bringing your messages to you. In 2008, YouMail rolled out an independent visual voicemail system aimed at smartphones that didn’t have it out-of-the-box. This morning a competitor out of the UK, HulloMail, took a huge step forward with the launch of a native BlackBerry application.

HulloMail’s taken a rather interesting route with their service; unlike the standard voicemail system and competing services, all voice messages are stored by the user – or, at least, the user’s email service. After signing up with HulloMail, the user configures their number (either on the handset or through their carrier, depending on both) to forward to HulloMail whenever a call goes unanswered. After a caller records their voice message, HulloMail encodes it into an MP3, tucks it into an e-mail, and sends it off to the user’s e-mail inbox. The strength of this approach is two-fold: it works on just about any handset that can receive e-mail and play audio files, and it makes sharing drunken voicemails with all of your friends a matter of hitting the “Forward” button.

So if it’s all handled through the user’s existing inbox, why the native app? Flexibility, primarily. There are a few things that can’t be done within the inbox, which is where the native app steps in. First of all, the HulloMail app trims the fat, plucking solely your voicemails from the mess that is your inbox. Beyond that, it’s all polish: automatic contact sync (both Google Contacts and those locally stored on your BlackBerry), one-click callback, and greeting customization to name some of it.

This isn’t HulloMail’s first foray into the native app space. Back in December of 2008, HulloMail made their debut as an Android application. The primary improvement in the BlackBerry app is the overall speed; they’ve learned a few new tricks for retrieving and playing your messages more quickly, and have built them into this new app. Don’t fret, though, Android HulloMail fans – they plan on rolling the same tweaks into the Android app shortly.

Both the HulloMail service and application are free of charge – the company plans to make money with premium services at a later date. The app, compatible with the BlackBerry Tour, 8900, and Bold, should be available shortly at http://www.hullomail.com/, and will roll out onto the BlackBerry App World shortly thereafter.

MUSIC MONDAYS: FEATURED DJ OF THE WEEK "PAUL VAN DYK"

FEATURED DJ OF THE WEEK "PAUL VAN DYK"

Matthias Paul, better know by his stage name Paul van Dyk (born December 16, 1971(1971-12-16) in Eisenhüttenstadt, Brandenburg, German Democratic Republic) is a Grammy Award–nominated artist, and one of the world's leading electronic dance music DJs and producers.[2] He was named "World's No.1 DJ" by DJ Magazine in both 2005 and 2006, and has remained in the "Top 10" since 1998.[3] As of 2007, he has sold over 3 million albums worldwide.[4]

A trance producer in the early-late 1990s, Paul quickly achieved popularity with his famous remix of Love Stimulation by Humate in 1993, and his hit single, For an Angel, but in recent times he no longer likes to describe his music as trance, but rather simply as electronic dance music.[5]

Paul Van Dyk grew up in East Berlin in a single parent household;[6] his father left him and his mother when he was only four years old.[6] While living there, he worked as broadcast technician[7] and began training to become a carpenter.[6] Paul van Dyk claims his musical education came from radio.[8] Because where he grew up there were no record stores at which to buy music, he kept in touch with the world beyond the Berlin Wall by secretly listening to the popular but forbidden Western radio stations RIAS (Radio in the American Sector) and SFB and mixtapes occasionally smuggled into the country and copied among school friends.[9]

Shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall, van Dyk and his mother were given permission to leave East Germany and moved to Hamburg to live with his aunt.[9] In 1990, van Dyk moved back to Berlin. His first appearance as a DJ was in the Tresor in March 1991.[10] A couple more dates followed and he was soon given the chance to perform at Juergen Kramer's famous Dubmission parties in the Turbine club, together with the highly popular young resident DJ Kid Paul. The shows were called Paul vs. Paul. His mixing style drew the attention of Cosmic Baby and the two collaborated as The Visions of Shiva. Their single "Perfect Day" was released by the renowned Berlin independent label MFS (Masterminded For Success) Records, run by English ex-patriat producer Mark Reeder and manager Torsten Jurk.

In February 1993, van Dyk and Kid Paul hosted an installment of the weekly three-hour "HR3 Clubnight" radio show perform for a nationwide audience on German radio. The second and final Visions of Shiva single "How Much Can You Take?" was released, and van Dyk and Cosmic went their separate musical ways. By late summer, Paul released his first DJ-mix compilation "X-Mix-1 - the MFS Trip" and remixed Humate's trance hymn "Love Stimulation".

The growing popularity of the Dubmission parties forced venue changes, first to Cafe Moskau and then into the larger E-Werk where van Dyk began hosting regular MFS nights.

Paul van Dyk released his fifth studio album, In Between, worldwide on August 14, 2007. The album, which he created over a three-year period, debuted at number #115 on the Billboard 200 and #2 on the Billboard's Top Electronic Albums and Top Heatseekers. The album also reached #16 on the Mexican Albums Chart and #5 on the Mexican International Chart. The album was released accompanied by a special edition limited to two thousand copies which included a mixed version of the full album, along with an eight-track bonus CD and an eight-page photo anthology.

The album was produced primarily by Paul van Dyk himself, and features a wide range of collaborators including David Byrne of Talking Heads, Jessica Sutta of the Pussycat Dolls, Ashley Tomberlin from Luminary, Alex M.O.R.P.H, Lo Fi Sugar, Rea Garvey of Reamonn, Ryan Merchant and Wayne Jackson. It also features a vocal sample from Ben Lost from Probspot's "Blows My Mind" on the song "Another Sunday". In June 2007, Paul van Dyk embarked on the worldwide "In Between Tour" to promote the album.[14]

Paul van Dyk hosts a show on Radio Fritz every Saturday at 20:00 GMT. In his latest[when?] gigs, he blurs the line between DJ'ing and live performance engineering by utilizing two 17" MacBook Pro laptops sporting Mainstage (Logic 8 Pro) and Ableton Live software on both, two MIDI keyboards, enabling a more fully-featured club experience more akin to a concert than a standard night out at a dance club.[citation needed] On-the-fly remixes, mashups and compositions are just some of the capabilities of this new performance method.

In May 2008, Paul van Dyk set up a remix competition with digital download network Beatport.com, inviting aspiring producers to remix his single 'Far Away' which appeared on his 2007 album 'In Between'. Paul has recently appeared as one of the DJs at Trance Energy 2009.

Although Miami is his stomping ground, on the national level DJ Irie is impossible to miss. As the official DJ to Jamie Foxx and the 2006 NBA World Champion Miami HEAT, and member of the 2008 Pepsi DJ Division with performances at MTV’s Total Request Live, the Nickelodeon Teen Choice Awards and the Halftime show at the Orange Bowl for three consecutive years, DJ Irie knows no boundaries.

he youngest of three boys, DJ Irie was born in St. Croix and raised in Miami, FL. Schooled in Jamaica, at a private boarding school, he was introduced to his first and only true love, music. With a home made beat machine, constructed from a walkman and speakers, combined with Grammy winning and multi-platinum reggae phenomenon-roommate Sean Paul's Casio, DJ Irie was born.

During the daytime hours, as DJ of the most listened to mix-show on Miami's WEDR 99Jamz, Irie spins his favorite records three days a week, (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) on The Drive at 5. His energy is contagious, and for the eighth season in a row, Irie is steadily playing his position keeping the HEAT on fire.

Featured Weekend DJ: Benny Benassi

TextToParty Featured DJ for this weekend is: BENNY BENASSI

Benny Benassi was born in Milan in 1967 and then grew up in the provincial town of Reggio Emilia, Italy. He started dj-ing when he ws still at school and has been producing with his cousin Alle Benassi for about ten years at Off Limits studios. His first as a producer was with the track "I feel so fine" by KMC feat. Dhany which went to n°1 in the UK club charts in 2001. The following year, working under the BENNY BENASSI presents THE BIZ trademark, Benny and Alle came up with "Satisfaction" and in one fell swoop ravaged the dancefloors and dominated sales charts round the world. The album “Hypnotica" followed. In the meantime Benny and Alle produced more melodic dance music under the Benassi Bros. banner. The charts of half the planet gave them thumbs up.

The Benassis have also remixed artists such as Outkast, David Guetta, Moby, Goldfrapp, Paul Oakenfold, Faithless and Public Enemy, to name but a few.
Benny has won tons of prizes and awards around the world and continues to tour the five continents with his unique style, once described as "electro, sort of house-tec, dirty and cool, sweaty and smooth".

In 2008 Benny and Alle won a Grammy Award for his remix of Public Enemy’s “Bring the noise”. The new album “Rock n Rave” contains tracks featuring Black Box, Farenheit, Dino Lenny, Mia J, Public Enemy, Channing and Iggy Pop.

His own productions are released through Energy Productions in Italy and Ultra in U.S.A. At the same time, Benny talent scouts for his own brand new label, Pump-kin, designed to create space for young djs and producers of electronic club music.

OBAMA had "CHANGE", BMW has " The Ultimate driving Machine". Now TextToParty will own "PARTY-ON-DEMAND". The slogan that best describes it's brand and reason for existence.

Most brands follow the Pepsi pattern. Every time they get a new CMO or a new advertising agency, they change the slogan. Since 1975, BMW has used one slogan: "The ultimate driving machine."

Now to follow in there foot steps, TextToParty needed a slogan that was simple, but most important something that consumers could relate to.. "PARTY-ON-DEMAND"

BYE BYE TO CLUB 5TH...FOR NOW!!

I remember my first time pulling up to the Fifth. It was about 2 weeks (Memorial Weekend) after the 400 moved from Harrison's to Club Fifth. It was a sight to behold, it was one of those things you need to see to believe. There were beautiful models, Athletes, celebrities & hundreds of people line up at the door just waiting to get in. It was amazing, nothing like I ever seen before in the urban party scene.

The 400 took Club Fifth for the urban market to levels of what Mansion is to the non-urban market. When tourist comes toMiami, the first club they want to go to is MANSION. When Urban upscale, ball players, and celebrities comes to Miami, the first club they wanted to go to on a Friday Night was the FIFTH......enough said.

- The club is under new ownership, and after the finale Labor Day Weekend, it will close down for the month of September only to re-open in October with a new name and a whole new look.... Its the End of an Era.. "J.Little"

After checking out the Friday night party I decided to check out the Saturday night party. Which was successfully ran by a good friend of mine "Gerry Kelly", Nightclub extraordinaire. If you know Gerry, like how I know Gerry, there is no explanation needed on how the Saturday night party was. You were there on a Saturday night or you were Nowhere..simple.

Unfortunately after a long run of successful Saturday night parties, Gerry Kelly made the switch from the FIFTH to KARU-Y. Saturday nights were never the same, after Gerry left the Fifth.

Say GoodBye to the OLD Fifth.......

But look out for what's to come next.
